Make Your Own Nature Paintbrushes

Imagine crafting paintbrushes out of sticks, feathers, flowers, and leaves. It’s like bringing the outdoors right into our little art corner! This hands-on experience not only encourages little artists to express themselves but also fosters a profound connection with the great outdoors. As kids embark on a scavenger hunt for sticks, feathers, flowers, and leaves, they’re not just collecting materials; they’re engaging their senses, exploring textures, and developing a keen eye for the beauty around them. Crafting these unique brushes becomes an empowering journey into resourcefulness, showing our young creators that art doesn’t always come from a store but can be inspired by the world outside our door. Through the process of cutting, tying, and arranging, fine motor skills get a boost, while the freedom to experiment with strokes and patterns sparks creativity. This craft isn’t just about making art. Creating nature paintbrushes instills a lasting appreciation for nature’s wonders and the endless possibilities that come with a touch of imagination.

You will need:
Sticks
Flowers, grass, pine needles, feathers or anything else from nature
Wikki Stix or rubber bands
Paint

Instructions:
1. Break your sticks into 6-8 inch pieces for the handles.

2. Attach your nature pieces with Wikki Stix or a rubber band.

We love Wikki Stix because they stick to themselves. They are great for fine motor skills and easy to work with. We use Wikki Stix with our Twig Stars, Egg Carton Caterpillars & Wikki Stix Alphabet Cards too!

3. Test out your paintbrushes!

Try different strokes with different brushes. We found that the flowers gave textured stamps, the grasses acted gave long strokes and the leaves gave wide, vibrant strokes.

It was interesting to see what the paintbrushes looked like after using them. Some of them were really pretty.
