BIOMES – 7 booklets, 35 animals and an animal sorting activity

We’ve been learning about the different biomes and the wildlife that lives there. We made a really cool Rainforest Diorama and played with a Jungle Sensory Bin. I’ve been working on making an animal sorting game and booklets about each biome. The kids and I did a few of them this week and they loved it! We learned what a biome is, which animals live there and what characteristics each biome has.

Included in this pack is:
7 Colored Biome Images
7 Biome booklets (6 pages each)
35 animal cards (5 per biome)
What Is A Biome Card

Each booklet has:
– black and white biome coloring page
– biome fact page
– define the biome writing activity
– draw the biome page
– list the animals in the biome writing activity
– 1 activity page (connect the dots, color by letter, symmetry drawing, word search, connect the animal name, fill in the missing letters)

Biomes included:
Savanna
Ocean
Desert
Arctic
Farm
Forest
Rainforest

Each page is 5×5. Each animal card is almost 2×2.

I printed each colored biome image and fact card on cardstock. Then I laminated them back to back to create a biome sorting mat. I also cut out each animal card and laminated them. The booklets were cut and stapled together.

These would work great as learning centers or stations! You could have each center be a different biome and have a sorting activity with all the animals and biomes together.

First, we talked about what a biome is. I laid out the biomes and the What Is A Biome card and we talked about the characteristics of each. Is it hot or cold, wet or dry? What types of plants and animals do we think live there?

Starting with 3 biomes at a time, I had the kids place each animal on the correct biome. We played a few times until we eventually tried them all at once. They learned quick!

Then we started our booklets. The kids picked the ocean to start. We practiced reading the fact page, writing the definition of the biome, drawing the biome and listing what animals lived there.

We finished up the ocean biome with a fun color by letter page. We’ve worked through a few of the booklets and the kids are already asking to do more.  These booklets are a fun way to learn about biomes!
