St. Patrick’s Day Sensory Bin

St. Patrick’s day is so much fun for the little’s! Gold at the end of the rainbow, lucky 4 leaf clovers and the color GREEN. My son says every color is green, it’s his favorite! For our sensory bin, I wanted to incorporate numbers, colors and St. Patrick’s Day. I think it turned out really awesome!

Materials used:
Green Beaded Necklaces
Gold Coins
Green Gems
Easter Grass
Gold Rocks – We found small rocks around the yard and spray painted them gold.
Felt St. Patrick’s Day Hat
Numbers from Melissa & Doug puzzle
Letters from Melissa & Doug Puzzle

We had “treasure” from our Pirate Birthday Party so I snuck in the basement with our Flisat table bins and started digging. Mr. 1 has been learning to count to 10 so I did 10 coins, 10 rocks and 10 gems. They each got a hat, ring and a necklace.

This St. Patrick’s Day Sensory Bin was a HUGE hit! They searched for treasure, collected coins and then re-hid them. Mr. 1 danced around with the grass and made a wonderful mess. They dressed up in their fancy rings, necklaces and hats and checked themselves out in the mirror. They had a blast!

Books:

I lined up a few of our favorite books that fit the theme. Hoot is about colors and counting to 5, my son’s favorite! We celebrated G for green and the first letter in Mr. 1’s name with My First Alphabet Book. It’s a touch and feel book that is done really well. I totally recommend checking this one out! And finally, The Artist Who Painted A Blue Horse which is all about animals and colors. Perfect for littles and word recognition!

Miss 4 lined up her coins, gems and rocks. We counted each to 10 and then all of them to 30. We talked about the color green and what letter it started with. We put each coin next to each number from our Melissa & Doug Wooden Number Puzzle to help us count to 10. This was super cool because they got to see the numbers as we counted.

Worksheets:
G is for Grapes
Tracing Numbers

Then, we did our worksheets! (Pay no attention to the chipped toddler friendly nail polish!) We traced numbers and colored things that started with G green. We talked about letter sounds and proper pencil grip.
