Organic Herb Garden Kit

My daughter received this Garden Republic – Organic Herb Garden Kit as a gift. It was a perfect activity to welcome spring and the warmer weather. We have plants outside each year but we’ve never started our herbs indoors before. She’s really excited to watch them grow – and so am I!

The kit comes with an instruction booklet to get you started.

Instructions:

1. Soak the seeds for about 24 hours.

2. Soak the soil disks and gently break them up in a large bowl. We used a medium bowl and as you can see, it was too small! Add the water slowly to make sure the soil isn’t too saturated.

3. Fill the burlap pots with soil almost to the top.

4. Place about 10 seeds per pot into each bag and cover them with a tiny bit of soil.

*Tip* – When pouring the seeds out of the glass, pour them VERY slowly onto a piece of paper towel in your hand. The paper towel will catch them and drain out the water.

5. Add the plant markers and wait!

Our kit had 2 parsley seed packets and was missing the thyme seeds. I emailed Garden Republic and the response I got was amazing! They sent us a personalized letter in the mail with special tips to make our herb garden a success! They also sent a few packets of seeds of each kind of herb! We are so excited to be able to grow more herb plants!

Thanks Garden Republic for your awesome customer service!

Day 6 – About 6 basil plants sprouting and 2 cilantro, so far! At this point, I’ve only given a small amount of water 1 time. The soil from the soil disks seem to hold moisture well.

*Tip* If the top looks dry, stick your finger in a bit and it should be damp. Don’t over saturate. The bags cannot rid excess water like a pot with holes would.

I’m really excited to teach the kids how to grow their own food. I want them to learn self-sufficiency and value healthy, homegrown food.
