Rainforest Diorama
We have been having so much fun learning about the Rainforest and Jungle. My favorite memory from school was walking into the decorated room with exciting craft tables and activities. I am so happy to get to recreate that feeling for my children. Last week, we played with this beautiful Jungle Sensory Table made with Colored Rice and water beads. Today, we learned about the animals of the rainforest and the different layers that they live in. We made a diorama to show what is in each layer. The kids loved putting this together!
You will need:
Shoe box (or any box)
Glue or Tape
Scissors
Construction Paper
Tissue Paper
Floam
Stones
Cardboard Tubes
All craft supplies can be substituted! Use your imagination!
First, we went over all the animals. I put together a couple pages of animals that live in the rainforest with a fact or two about each one. I gave them each a black and white page of the animals to color as we talked about each one. These are the animals we cut out to put in our diorama.
Before we started our diorama, I wanted to go over the different layers so the kids knew what to make each layer look like. I made this Rainforest Layers Writing Activity to give a brief explanation of what it consisted of. Once we colored the top page and wrote our descriptions, we cut along the dotted lines of the colored page and stapled the pages together along the left side. It made this neat activity page to look back on while we were creating our diorama.
Cardboard tubes with tissue paper stuffed in them made our large 3D trees. We crumpled brown paper and taped them to the cardboard tube trees as vines. From the garden, we gathered small stones to line the river, used construction paper for the sky and made a construction paper tree. To make this super easy, I printed a tree template (see below) and stapled it to a piece of construction paper. Then, I cut out the tree. Lastly, we balled up some tissue paper for bushes and added our animals and layer names.
These printables worked perfectly with our Rainforest Diorama. The kids learned the rainforest layers, animals and got to look back on their pages while they built their diorama.
