Discover the 50 States – Research Kit

I created this “Discover the 50 States” activity pack because of my daughter’s love for geography. Every time I started making a new state booklet, she begged me to finish it so she could do it! I wanted to make something that would keep her excited and learning about our country.

I also created a webpage for each state with all the information you need to fill these booklets out so you don’t have to go fishing through google for the information. It’s all in the Discover The USA – A State by State Guide for Kids!

Each State Booklet includes 8 pages that help kids explore each state through creativity and research. Activities include decorating a Traveling to “State” suitcase cover, drawing and labeling a state map, drawing a famous state food, locating the state on a USA map, designing a postcard, completing a state facts research page, writing three interesting facts learned, and creating a custom state license plate.

Each state comes with a state symbols wheel where kids can draw the state bird, tree, flag, and flower, color the state on the cover, and then cut it out to create a wheel that shows each symbol as it spins.

The “What State Would You Visit?” page encourages kids to think about their favorite destinations while building geography skills. Students can also compare two states using a Venn diagram to explore similarities and differences, helping them better understand each state’s unique features. As children complete their booklets and state symbol wheels, they can also color each state they study on a United States map, creating a visual record of their learning and “travels” across the country.

This resource is flexible and works beautifully for homeschool families studying one state at a time or creating a full cross-country learning journey. It is also perfect for classroom use, allowing students to research, create, and present their assigned state to classmates while learning about the features, symbols, and culture that make up the United States.
