Breathing Bracelets

These breathing bracelets are a great activity for those who need a hands on technique to calm down. Breathing bracelets help you remember to slow down and breathe during stressful or overwhelming situations. This approach is a great way to help your children to be mindful of their emotions.

You will need:
Pony Beads
Pipe Cleaners

They each picked 6 beads to add to their pipe cleaners. You could do a pattern or a rainbow.

With the beautiful sunset in the background, they threaded each bead onto their pipe cleaners.

We wrapped the ends around each other to create a bracelet. You could also make a breathing stick. Spiral or loop the ends of the pipe cleaner. This is a great hands on calming technique for kids and adults alike.

How to use your breathing bracelet:

The finished product is a cute bracelet that reminds you to breathe through your emotions. When you feel stressed or overwhelmed, try using your breathing bracelet.

  1. Grab one bead and move it to the other side while you “breathe in”.
  2. Grab the next bead and “breathe out”.
  3. Keep going until all beads are moved and you start feeling more relaxed.

You can also use your breathing bracelet to practice box breathing. Box breathing is a breathing technique used to decrease stress and calm oneself.

  1. Grab one bead and breathe in for 4 seconds as you move the bead to the other side.
  2. Move the next bead as you hold your breathe for 4 seconds.
  3. Move the next bead and exhale for 4 seconds.
  4. Move the next bead and hold your breathe for 4 seconds.
  5. Repeat the process until you feel relaxed.
